BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The first store in the Southport Crossings shopping center is now open.
The CVS Pharmacy, which is located on one of the outparcels, opened Sunday. The store moved from its former site in the Live Oak Shopping Center on Long Beach Road, and another store will follow.
“At that time, the space will be turned over to the tenants so they can begin up-fits,” Morrison said.
Some retailers have already signed leases. Falcone & D’s, an Italian restaurant, will occupy one of the spaces. While Morrison could not release the names of the other tenants, he did say they would include a nail salon, a mattress company and a 2,800 sq. ft. women’s clothing boutique.
In addition to CVS and Lowes Foods, there are several outparcels for additional shops and restaurants. Morrison said many of those parcels are currently under contract. While he could didn’t want to release the names of those businesses until they closed on the properties, he said they would include a fast-food restaurant, an auto parts store, a car wash and a national tire distributor.
Since the shopping center was first proposed, there has been much speculation as to what fast-food restaurant would go in the space. Morrison did put some rumors to rest, noting that Wendy’s passed on the site early in the process, and that it would not be a Chick-fil-A or a Starbucks.
“It’s not going to be a coffee concept,” he said. “It’s more of a traditional fast-food concept.”
As far as construction, Morrison said the Lowes Foods portion of the project is ahead of schedule. All the infrastructure, including roads and stormwater drainage is complete. He added that the new Lowes Foods plans to open its 50,000-square-foot store just before Memorial Day 2020.
