The restaurant has leased space at River Place.
Mellow Mushroom will be one of the restaurants at River Place, a mixed-use project currently under construction at 200 N. Water St. in downtown Wilmington. Local franchisees of the Atlanta-based pizza chain signed a lease for a 4,600-square-foot space with Cape Fear Commercial.
“We are just very excited to finally be a part of downtown Wilmington,” said Robert Ray, who is a co-owner of the local restaurants. “We looked at a spot in the area 15 years ago for our first store, but as it turned out, ended up on Oleander Drive. Over the years, we have always wondered what could have been, so we are thrilled for the opportunity to be part of such an epic project.”
Ray and Kevin Dukes opened their first store at 4311 Oleander Drive in 2003. They then opened a location at 224 Causeway Drive in Wrightsville Beach in 2011.
The new restaurant will be on the ground floor of the 13-story development, which is expected to open late spring 2020, said Patrick Riley, with Cape Fear Commercial. Bijou on the River, A Circa Restaurant Group eatery from Ash Aziz, is slated for the third floor. Axis Fitness is another business planned for the space.
