Proximity at Carolina Beach

Cape Fear Development, in collaboration with Cape Fear Construction Group and Monteith Construction is proud to announce the Proximity Carolina Beach, a landmark mixed-use development, is opening soon in the heart of Carolina Beach. This cutting-edge project, strategically located adjacent to the Publix shopping center developed by Cape Fear Development in 2018, represents the first mixed-use venture of its kind on a barrier island, seamlessly blending luxury living with premier retail and entertainment offerings.

The Proximity Carolina Beach features 250 luxury residential apartments atop more than 35,000 square feet of commercial space. Designed to offer a vibrant lifestyle experience, Proximity CB includes a curated mix of entertainment, shopping, and dining options right on the ground floor.

Residents of the project, locals, and visitors alike can easily access everything from their morning coffee or a mid-day taco bowl to a quick shopping trip for a new dinner outfit or a late-night ice cream treat. The diverse array of retail partners already confirmed for the ground floor includes:

K38 Baja Mexican Grill: Expanding on its Wilmington footprint and venturing into the Carolina Beach market, K38 Baja Grill has been bringing the most authentic baja-inspired recipes right to its coastal patrons for over 20 years and counting.

Boombalatti’s Homemade Ice Cream: Boombalatti’s is a family-owned and operated sweet shop offering unique premium, homemade ice cream flavors using only dairy from grass-fed resources.

Island Pasage: Island Passage has been providing Wilmington and the surrounding areas with fashionable clothing, shoes, and accessories for over 25 years. Their 4th coastal location will be available on the first floor for CB residents to shop the newest styles.

Riko’s Pizza: This Connecticut based pizzeria, founded in 2011, is expanding its footprint and coming to our beloved coast. At their first NC location, Riko’s will offer its tavern-style, thin-crust pizza to CB patrons.

Sweetwater Surf Shop: Sweetwater Surf Shop was established in 1976 and is still run today by a family of long-time locals. Sweetwater offers one of the largest surfboard and wetsuit selections on the east coast.

Drift Coffee and Kitchen: A Wilmington staple, this beloved coffee and kitchen will open it’s 6th location in Carolina Beach, offering patrons high-end coffee paired with a premium, all-day breakfast, brunch & lunch options.

In addition to the exciting retail options, the residential side of the Proximity Carolina Beach offers a wide range of premium thoughtfully designed amenities to elevate the lifestyle of its residents. At the heart of the community is a public green space, complete with a stage for events and entertainment, creating a vibrant gathering spot for both residents and visitors. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the 24/7 boutique gym operated by a local fitness brand, providing convenient access to wellness. The resort-style clubhouse and swimming pool offer a luxurious setting for relaxation, complemented by outdoor grills and an inviting outdoor fireplace, perfect for socializing. For professionals, a state-of-the-art co-working and business center is available, providing a dynamic work environment within the community. Additional features include a serene live oak canopy, “floating” meditation deck, and an on-site dog park.

The development has already seen strong interest, with 12% of the residential units pre-leased. The first wave of move-ins is scheduled for September 15th, 2024.

Situated directly off the Island Greenway trail, Proximity CB provides convenient access for both residents and the public. Residents can step outside from their homes and hop on the greenway for a scenic stroll or bike ride through Carolina Beach, or directly to the Carolina Beach State Park. The Proximity at CB will also offer a shuttle service to the beach for its residents.

This project reflects the successful outcome of more than 30 community meetings to acquire rezoning, during which feedback from local residents was carefully considered to ensure the development met the desires of the community. This feedback inspired the partnership with Axis Fitness, which is now offering new memberships to the public. Carolina Beach residents will also be offered memberships to the resort-style pool, which will be available beginning in the Spring of 2025.
