Cape Fear Development proudly celebrated the official Grand Opening of Proximity Watermark on May 7th, welcoming more than 150 guests to the riverfront community for an afternoon filled with great weather, beautiful views, and a shared excitement for what this project brings to the Wilmington Riverfront.
Located along the Cape Fear River, Proximity Watermark has been a special project for the Cape Fear Development team from the very beginning. More than just a new community, the project was an opportunity to create a place that feels connected to the riverfront and contributes to the continued growth and evolution of Wilmington’s riverfront corridor. The redevelopment of the former marina property presented a unique opportunity to reimagine the waterfront site into a community centered around connectivity, outdoor experience, and waterfront living. Guests spent the afternoon touring the property, gathering along the waterfront, and experiencing firsthand the spaces designed to bring people together.
The Proximity Watermark offers luxury apartment residences paired with thoughtfully designed amenities including a waterfront pier, golf simulator, resort-style pool, fitness center, coworking spaces, resident lounges, and outdoor gathering areas that give the community a secluded, resort-style riverfront atmosphere.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed tours of the property, live entertainment, and time to connect with the many people who helped bring the vision for Proximity Watermark to life.
Proximity Watermark also marks a major milestone for the organization as the first completed project delivered through the combined efforts of Cape Fear Development and Cape Fear Construction Group Led by David Novotny, allowing the team to execute both development and construction under one roof for the first time. Cape Fear Construction Group team played a key role in bringing the vision for the riverfront community to life alongside design partner LS3P. Other key partners include property manager Bell Partners, Morvil Design, and First National Bank, which provided financing for the project. Cape Fear Development also recognized the support of Mike McCarley, local officials, consultants, and community partners whose collaboration helped shape a project designed to add long-term value to Wilmington’s riverfront corridor.
Proximity Watermark joins the growing Proximity portfolio alongside Proximity New Bern, Proximity Carolina Beach, and Proximity Government Center, with each community designed to reflect the character of its surrounding neighborhood while creating spaces where people genuinely enjoy living and gathering.
